The next big thing? Colour
Have you ever thought about where the next big thing comes from? Usually, it’s from the shadows. It’s been there all along, but it’s blended in with the scenery and no one has paid it any special attention.
But then something shifts and the spotlight gets turned on it – and its possibilities. It happens in fashion, architecture, and the world of interior design too.
colour masterclass online – book your free place now
It’s all go here behind the scenes with the preparation for my first ever online masterclass next week “Get Your Clients Excited about Colour Again!” and you’re invited!
Is Your Client Chromophobic?
If you’re an architect, interior designer, or in fact any design professional, then September in London means one thing – London Design Week. This year I was honoured to be asked to help co-curate the four colour talk programme at 100% Design.
Other than the two times I was on stage taking part in talks myself, I was sitting front row for most of the other speakers. We had such a high-calibre line up of colour experts, I really wanted to soak up what they had to say.
100% Design colour talks programme in collaboration with Karen Haller
How exciting, London Design Week is almost upon us. When London immerses itself in all things design, attracting creative minds from around the world.
I’ve been busy working behind the scenes on the 100% Design colour talks programme. I can’t believe it was back in March, by a chance meeting at another colour event (Sean Rogg’s founder of The Waldorf Project with his sensory and intriguing Chapter Two: ‘Colour’) when I met the lovely Claire Barrett from Caro Communications.

The colour wheel is just the tip of the iceberg
Colour is one of those amazing phenomenons that’s fascinated man for centuries. So much so there’s specialist colour scientists, academics and researchers around the world coming up with amazing new colour theories and findings all the time.
Interestingly, the new ways of working with colour coming out of the ongoing research aren’t widely known within the design industries. It’s as if we’re stuck in a colour wheel rut and haven’t moved on. But this is definitely changing.

Dulux Colour of the Year 2015 radio day with Rebecca Williamson
It feels like only yesterday Rebecca Williamson and I were on radio talking about Dulux 2014’s Colour of the Year, Teal. Today we teamed up again to talk about this year’s Copper Blush. It was another marathon session giving 14 radio interviews within 3 hours with a combined listenership close to 5 million across the UK. It was wonderful to chat again with Charlene Guy on BFBS worldwide (British Forces Broadcasting Service) definitely a lover of colour and by the sounds of it all things pink!

Every year Dulux UK, together with a well-known name, create a beautiful colour story, bringing Dulux colour of the year to life. Last year it was Alesha Dixon with Teal and the year before Nicola Roberts with indigo blue.
I’ve been eagerly awaiting this year’s story and today I received the ‘hot off the press pictures’.
This year it’s the lovely….

Thomas Pocklington – Homes and living spaces for people with sight loss: a guide for interior designers
Wednesday night was the launch of the first in a series of professional guides from the charity Thomas Pocklington. The guide’s author, Jacqui Smith, an interior designer, lost the sight in her left in 2012. She realised there was a need for a guide to be written and approached Thomas Pocklington. The result is the Homes and living spaces for people with sight loss: a guide for interior designers.
