fab Women in Business magazine is the UK’s only magazine aimed at business women running or wanting to run their own business. And they have just released their 1st Birthday issue! I was delighted to interviewed by Kate Miranda (a fellow Australian) for this special birthday issue on Colour psychology and your brand.
One of the most common questions I’ve been asked during this month of 30 blogs in 30 days is can you tell me if my business brand colours are right?
Naturally as business owners we all want to be attracting our ideal clients not repelling them so it is no surprise this has become a somewhat frequently asked question.
Without doing a full brand analysis which to answer a question like this would require, instead I’m going to set out a several tips you can follow to help you become more aware, and more concious of your colour choices.
(Day 29 into my 30 blogs in 30 days challenge!)
Think of black interiors and sleek, ultra-modern, minimalist, dark and mysterious comes to mind. It can work perfectly depending on the mood and atmosphere you want to create. After all it’s all about creating a space that attracts your ideal customers.
When used by a brand whose personality communicates the qualities of black, they can be seen as sophisticated, aspirational and industry leaders. For those brands who fail to up hold this and the negative qualities will be felt. Even more so if a brand isn’t aware of the effects teaming black with another colour has. This can completely change the meaning of a colour and how the brand is seen by its ideal clients.
I often get asked what is colour psychology exactly. There is definitely a lot of confusion out there with colour association and colour symbolism often being mistaken for colour psychology. So I thought I would explain the differences to clear up any confusion.
Last month I featured Pantone’s colour of the year Tangerine Tango and blogged about all things orange. This month it’s Dulux’s turn. Their colour of the year is called Firecracker 4. A hue Dulux describe as a “blushing, lively juicy red”.
If you have ever wanted to learn more about colour, then this is an event not to be missed. You will hear from four world leading speakers, experts in their field of colour. And it’s for free!
Each year (since 1966) on the August bank holiday weekend, Notting Hill turns into a sea of colour. Starting life as a local festival by the West Indian community, it has become Europe’s largest street festival.
Outlandish, balance defying, flamboyant colourful hats … it can only mean Ladies Day at Royal Ascot. It’s the day when the ladies let their imaginations (or their milliner’s) go wild, expressing their personality through colour and creativity! Other than loving all the colour, I’m amazed at how the ladies manage to stay upright, balancing these larger than life creations on their heads.
This was my third time to the Isle of Wight festival. What makes me return year after year is the laidback, chilled out vibe and superb music (my favourites this year were Foo Fighters and Seasick Steve). And plenty of colour!
